The Swoosh Swing Pitch Shot
Have you ever wanted to have something simple so that you can hit the ball up in the air and do it consistently?
That’s what I’m going to show you how to do today. I love giving you simple things to work on because that’s where the magic is in your golf. Keeping it simple.
Hitting a pitch shot is actually more simple than you think, especially getting it up in the air. A lot of people try to help the ball when they are hitting a pitch shot, they flick up and try and lift the ball up with the club and what happens with that is you can’t go through the ball.
What happened with the club and the ball is that when you go to make contact the club has to keep going through. What happened is that the club doesn’t actually hit the ball itself, it hits the grass just before. The ball climbs up onto the clubface as the club slides through the grass and lifts into the air.
What happens when you try to lift the club up is the bottom part of the club (called the leading edge) can’t come up into the air because you are going over the top of the ball.
That’s what we want to do when we pitch, actually that’s what we want to do with everything, hit the grass just before the ball. I would like you to practice the swoosh swing. The swoosh swing is really about hearing the swoosh of the grass when we pitch a ball. That’s what we want to do every time we hit a ball. We want to hear that lovely swoosh on the grass.
Now, our goal here is to hit the grass just before the ball, I always say you want to give the grass a little bit of a haircut, just a trim. Let’s do a practice swoosh swing, you can hear that swoosh, now we are going to do it with the ball.
As you can see when I hit the ball it automatically lifts up. We want to make sure we are getting the feeling of long back and long through not up, down and up.
That’s all you need to do.
Hope you enjoyed today’s tip. Love it if you could leave a comment and always remember this, Tee it High and Let it Fly.
