#189 Web TV: How To Build Confidence For Your 1 Metre Putts

How To Build Confidence For Your 1 Metre Putts

Are you finding that when you about to play the one metre putt, you get really nervous? It’s the difference between having a wipe on the hole or actually saving and finally getting that one point.

Well, if that’s you and you find you get really nervous as you get closer to the hole, I’m going to show you a way in which you can tackle it and build confidence in those short putts.

That is right! We are going to be working on the putter today and we are going to be working on making sure we sink those one metre putts or those short putts, with confidence. That’s what we are going to focus on today.

The biggest thing is to overcome the fear, the fear of making a mistake, the fear of doing something wrong, the fear of missing the hole. We need to make sure that what we are doing is actually sinking the ball. Sinking the ball with confidence and also trusting what we are doing, it’s very important.

So, I’ll leave the flag in, so you can see the hole, but ideally you don’t want the flag in the hole, or the pin in the hole. We are going to focus on learning to trust our stroke and all I want you to do is just listen for the ball to go into the hole.

Notice I didn’t turn my head. All we are going to do is listen for the ball to go into the hole. It’s very simple.

Notice that my head is not turning! That’s what we need to focus on.
Just say that you are missing the hole, you keep missing the hole. The thing is that most possibly your line is not right, take the time to line the ball up, you’ve heard me talk about this in other videos, line the ball up, work on getting the line right and then trust the line.

Get set, perform the stroke and trust the result.

Notice I am still looking down, I’m listening for the ball to go into the hole.
It’s a really simple drill for you to do, something you can practice, something you can focus on prior to actually going out onto the golf course when you are playing.

How much time do you spend working on your putting game? Most people say, oh, about five minutes and that’s usually before I go out to play competition.
If you could spend five minutes just doing that simple practice, you would get more benefit than walking around the green and putting to see if you can get a feel.

Work on something with purpose so you can improve that area because this one is crucial.

I hope you enjoyed the tip today, something quick so you can go and work on.
