The Simple Way Hit Your Consistently Straight
There is nothing more exciting than grabbing the lovely driver, hitting the ball down the fairway and going straight down the middle.
It’s a great feeling, isn’t it?
You just want to give the driver a kiss, don’t you?
So, you would have seen a video, actually the last two videos that I have done, where I have been showing a particular action, there were two ladies that I had here, Lorraine and Jenelle, and they were just slightly hitting the ball out to the right and they weren’t sure why.
We were talking about what to do with the left arm and what to do coming through, not sticking the elbow out and making sure the arm is straight.
Well, today I want to show you some progress that we have had, simply for your own benefit. You can see what happened before, what’s happening now and what will help your progression.
What I’m going to show you today is Lorraine’s original swing, when she was having a problem, hitting the ball out to the right, both Lorraine and Jenelle were having the same issue on the same day, and where the progress has gone.
Unfortunately, Jenelle isn’t here, but Lorraine was here today at the clinic I held this morning, when we were practicing and working with the driver and she was hitting everything beautiful and straight and my fingers were crossed that she was going to take that with her onto the golf course.
I’ll show you what happened when she was out on the golf course a couple of weeks ago when she was having that little issue, what was happening for her today and then I’ll come back and talk to you about it.
Here we have Lorraine’s swing. On the left side you saw her a few weeks ago, when she was doing her swing, make sure you are looking at the one on the left at the moment, she came through and hit the ball and remember that the ball came off the club not quite on the centre of the clubface, and it went out to the right a little bit and when she came through you could see that there was a bend in the left arm.
I know you would have had a sneak peek on the right side to see what’s going on. This is just two weeks later, actually after Lorraine saw what was going on in her swing, so obviously she has been working on it which is great, and we have been spending some time working on that swing. I brought out the camera again when she was out playing, and this is what you’ll see. As she comes down through the shot here and makes contact, you can see that the clubface is about to hit the ball in the centre and then what starts to happen is the ball travels forward. I’ll highlight that so you can see it.
As you can see on the left, the ball is going out to the right. You can also see the positioning of Lorraine, she is a little bit cramped up in the left image and that is because of the left elbow bending, but you can see that she is not as cramped up in her body on the right image. Now, as she comes through in the image on the right, the ball continues to travel forward as opposed to the one on the left where the ball is travelling out to the right, towards the trees.
We’ll go back to the image on the right and as she gets to the top part of the swing and she comes through, have a look at her left arm. How straight is that? She has gone straight through the ball which has enabled the ball to go nice and straight, whereas you can see in the image on the left there is a breakdown with the left arm, she is already bringing her body up out of the shot. On the right she has been able to maintain herself, staying down longer through the shot and therefore she has had a better result and you can see through the finish it is different as well, you can see her left arm is lovely and straight and, on the left, hand side you can see what was happening with the bent left elbow.
That’s a really good result. Lorraine actually does that a lot, the right-handed swing that you see here on, in practice but it doesn’t happen every single time when she is out playing and she is teeing off, simply because there are so many other things you can think about when you are doing the swing.
This image on the right is a really good one, just a big click in in practice on the day and there was a big click in out on the course for her on that day as well. You can see the difference, so well-done Loraine, that was really awesome and great work!
So, what did you think? That was interesting wasn’t it, she did great, didn’t she? Just by her actually coming though and straightening that left arm through the shot enabled her to hit the ball straight. You can see, it’s great!
I’ll just clarify something for you before I go back over what we were working through. When you come through, even though you come through and the arm is nice and straight, you might be thinking what do you do to finish, well, all you have to do it bend your elbows after, just bend your elbows after you have extended through the ball. You don’t do it when you are hitting the ball. If you try and do that, the balls will go out to the right and the elbow will stick out to the side, which we don’t want. We just want to make sure we are getting that nice extension.
So, I’m going to go back over it, just quickly for you, so you can see it again. What you want to go and work on and then I’d love it if you could leave a comment and share with me what you got out of today’s video.
All we do is a little half swing, straight back, straight through, you would have seen another video where I talked about having a nice straight left arm, but we’re just going to see it from this angle. Remember, straight back, straight through and hold your position. Now, you can’t see my left elbow, can you, it’s not sticking out that way it’s straight, and that’s what you want to make sure you are looking for.
That was easy, wasn’t it. It’s really that simple, we don’t need to make the golf swing very complex, especially with the driver, the longest golf club in the bag. We want to be able to control it so we are hitting nice straight shots all the time. It’s just about creating the awareness of what you need to do.
I hope you enjoyed today’s tip, I would love it if you could leave a comment and share with me what you liked best about what you say today. If you have friends that you know will benefit from these videos, I would love you to share them, because we want to build the Lady Golf Teacher community as big as we possibly can.
Have an absolutely awesome day, take care, and remember; Tee it high and Let it fly.
