#183 Web TV: How To Be Consistently Straight With Your Driver

How To Be Consistently Straight With Your Driver

It’s all about the driver, isn’t it?

It sure is!

Hitting it straight down the fairway!

How do we do that?

Well, did you see the video that I shot last week about how to hit straight shots down the middle of the fairway with your driver?

Today I’m going to show you what to do and it is a follow on from last week's video. You will need to see the first one, there will be a link somewhere so you can see it, but then follow on with this one.

It’s really important that you see this one.

Umm, down the fairway, straight down the middle, that is what we always want with the driver.

A nice big boom one!

Now in order for that to happen, a nice big booming shot down the fairway, soaring through the air, we have to make sure we get the mechanics of the swing right.

This is where people really struggle with their golf swing. They really don’t know what they need to be doing in the golf swing. In the video last week, I talked about keeping the club face nice and square through the ball, but also what we were working on with the left arm. Remember when you are coming through is not seeing the left arm stick out.

How are we going to make it work so we are keeping our left arm straight?

You saw it from the back angle and today I’m going to show you from the front view, just so you know what to do.

This is very, very simple. You will be surprised how simple it is. Yet, people struggle to execute it. That is where the challenge is.

What we want to do, when coming through the shot we go back and through, keeping the left arm straight. It’s as simple as that!

You know how I have been talking about the hands, not wanting them to move, you would have seen another video of me talking about keeping the club face nice and straight, it’s the same thing. It’s just being aware of what’s actually going on. Most people are not aware, and that’s where the problems happen.

All we are going to do here is to go long back and through but notice the left arm is going to stay nice and straight, it’s not going to bend. It’s not going to stick out. That’s what was happening in the last video.

Here we go, we just set ourselves up, and all we are going to do, once we get set is, do a nice simple swing, just swing back, through and hold working on keeping the left arm straight. It’s as simple as that.

The thing is, you want to let the ball react off the club face. The problem that people have, as I’ve talked about in other videos, is that when they hit, they then trying to manoeuvre, or flick the hands away, and that’s what actually stops the ball from working.

We need to make sure that when we get set, we swing back and through and then hold the position. All we want is for the ball to go straight. That’s it.

You need to understand to keep the left arm straight!

So, I’ll do it one more time, and what I want you to get into your head, is to let go of that thing about distance.
I hear it a lot, in lessons people ask how to get more distance. You will never get more distance is you don’t fix up your technique, I can guarantee it. None of this baloney about swinging quicker or swinging your arms quicker or trying to run through quicker.

If your technique is not there you will not get it. I can guarantee you that!

Start getting the foundations of the swing right first and here is a nice easy tip for you, all you want to do is to swing back and through, contact, hold, keeping the left arm nice and straight, getting the ball to react off the club face and it goes straight.

That’s all you need to do. Very, very simple.

That was easy, wasn’t it? Very simple, keeping the left arm straight so you can go straight through the ball and, oh my goodness, the ball will go straight. It’s very simple stuff, let’s not make the golf swing complex. It doesn’t need to be that way.
