Hit Your Driver Consistently Down The Fairway
Would you like to be able to hit your driver consistently down the middle of the fairway?
Are you saying, yes, I would absolutely love to do that, because that’s what I’m going to show you today.A way in which you can hit your driver consistently down the fairway and I’m also going to show you – what not to do.
Hitting the ball down the centre of the fairway off your tee shot. How exciting is that? It’s awesome, isn’t it? Standing on the tee and hitting it straight down the middle of the fairway.
Today I’m going to show you a particular action that we have been working on and what happens with the fine tuning side of things to make sure the ball is going more consistently down the centre.
I’m going to quickly show you what goes on in a particular swing. I’m going to show you Jenelle’s and Lorraine’s swing. They don’t know it, but they are going to be internet sensations. I am going to show you what has been going on for them and for me to take them to the next level and I’ll show you how to do that.
So, here we have Lorraine and Jenelle. I actually started with Lorraine and Jenelle from the very beginning of their golf journey, so they have been having lessons with me for quite a while and I’m really excited about where their swing has gone. But, every so often they have a period where they just hit the ball out to the right, just now and then, not all the time, but on this particular day, it was happening for both of them and they wanted me to have a look at their swing.
I filmed the swing for them so that they could both see what was going on. Funnily though they were both doing the same thing!
So, that’s what I am going to show you because where they have come from with no golf experience to where they are now is very exciting. So, well done Jenelle and Lorraine, I’m really excited for you. What we want to also do, at this point in your golf is refinement. This is just a small area where every so often something crops up in their game where they hit the ball out to the right, not like slicing, just the ball going off the right. I’m going to show you what goes on with that and how we are going to fix it.
So, here is the lovely Lorraine on the left and the lovely Jenelle on the right and I’ll show you them going through their swing. What I want you to be focused on is when they come through to make contact with the ball, looking at Lorraine first, what happens is the ball is just starting to go out to the right because what has happened, is that when she has made contact, the ball has not quite hit the centre of the clubface, not the toe, just slightly right, off centre.
The clubface is beautiful and straight, so well done Lorraine. Where she has come through is the issue causing the ball to go outwards to the right. So, as we continue on with Lorraine’s swing through here, see how there is a little breakdown with her left elbow.
What happens is that when her swing starts to go off a little bit, she tends to not extend her left arm as much through the ball and she pulls around a little bit to the left, as you can see with her left elbow. We want to make sure we are reinforcing to Lorraine that she keeps going through the ball. But, Lorraine, I am really happy with your swing, it’s looking really great. It’s just an area that crops in when the ball has stopped and veered off to the right a little bit. Just something to be aware of. I’ll show all of you how to fix that shortly.
Now, we’ll move across to Jenelle, I tried to get them both synchronised, but I haven’t quite got that. Over here on the right is Jenelle’s swing, you can see the ball just to the right a little so when she brings the club down to make contact, it’s a bit difficult to see with the ball in the shade, the same thing, it’s actually that her club, again, is going to hit just off centre to the right of the clubface and then you can just start to see the ball starting to veer off out to the right. Just ever so slightly, but with the driver you have to make sure you are really accurate.
As Jenelle comes through her shot you can see her left elbow is bent, same thing as Lorraine, a little pull across and around the body and then comes right out to the left veering around the body. So, what we want to reinforce for Jenelle and if you are doing the same thing to reinforce to you, is to just extend a little bit through the ball.
When both Lorraine and Jenelle do that they both hit awesome, awesome tee shots. Just want to make sure we are reinforcing that. I’m going to show you how to do it now.
That was interesting wasn’t it? You could see that when the club came through, the club was actually starting to go away to the left and the ball was going out to the right. We are going to stop that from happening. What happens is when the club comes down to hit the ball, it actually is starting to pull away to the left instead of going forward, causing the ball to go little bit out to the right. What we want to make sure we are doing is hitting the ball and going forward.
How are we going to do that?
I’ll show you something very simple that you can work on. The most important thing you want to work on in your golf swing is to keep the clubface straight. You would have seen me in a driver video talking about keeping the clubface straight and the same thing applies.
In the video of Jenelle and Loraine you would have seen that when they were coming through and the left elbow was coming out to the left, as you can see behind me as I demonstrate. We do not want to see that!
What we want to do in the action is to go forward, notice you can’t see my elbow. You can only see the arms going through to the fairway. It’s a little bit too soon to see the elbow so make sure you cut that out.
Just a nice, easy back and through action. Don’t worry about going into the swing, just straight back, straight through and hold, and you can’t see my elbow sticking out to the left. Getting set, swing back and straight through, going forward.
Make sure that’s what you are looking for when you are doing this shot.
That was interesting, making sure you can hit your driver more consistently down the middle of the fairway just by making a little tweak.
If you stay tuned for next week, you’ll see something very similar and I’ll show you what you can do with a front on and a side view, not the back view, what you can do with your arm.
I hope you enjoyed today’s tip, love it if you could leave a comment and share with me what you liked best about today, if you have friends that you know will benefit from these videos, I would love you to share them, because we want to build the Lady Golf Teacher community as big as we possibly can.
Have an absolutely awesome day, take care, and remember; Tee it high and Let it fly.
