How To Get Consistency With Your Golf Swing
Are you so frustrated that you can't get consistency and you just don’t know what to do about it?
So frustrated with the golf club that you can’t seem to get the ball from here to there, you can’t get consistency and you just don’t know what is going on?
Today I’m going to show you something that you really need to be aware of that you must be doing. I’ll stress MUST. This is one of my secrets that I’m sharing with you today.
I find that most people’s problem with their golf swing is consistency. You may be feeling the same way, just can’t get consistent. You know, that is the most common term used in golf. When people come to have lessons with me they come and for private lessons or they come to the consistency clinic or any other clinics that I run, out on the golf course and I’m out there with them, the story is just: I can’t get consistent.
There is a reason that you can’t get consistency, one of them is just not practicing the right thing. If you are not reproducing the right thing each time, making sure that the swing works, that is a definite. You need to make sure that is what you are practicing.
But, what do you practice? I am going to show you today what you need to be practicing. I’m going to demonstrate to you, with two videos on what goes on in the swing, how a lady that I teach, Pene, makes contact with the ball and when she makes a mistake. I want you to see the difference between the two and I’ll show you that first, so that you can see what I’m talking about. Then we’ll come back and I’ll work through it with you.
So, here we are. I want to show Penne and I’m going to show you this as well, that when things aren’t working this is what is going on. You may find this happens with you too, I just want to make you are aware. What happens when Pene doesn’t hit the ball the way she wants to is usually because the club face will actually turn a little bit left so it twists a little left and the ball tends to shoot out a lot lower. I’ll show you what I mean by that.
So as you can see here the ball has stayed quite low, and what else we notice here is what happens with Pene's hands. What actually happens is that her right hand twists a little when she makes contact with the ball and what happens from that point is that the ball comes through a little bit lower. The club face is twisting just a little around to the left and the ball shoots out quite low. It’s not a very clean shot, as you can see the trajectory of the ball is quite low.
Now I move across to the other one and I’ll show you what happens here. This is the second swing that we did, and I suggested to Pene that the club face stayed nice and straight through contact with the ball. Watch what happens.
Look at the trajectory, so the ball, instantly once she makes good contact with the ground, just before the ball, the ball will climb up the club face and go straight up with a better trajectory. Rather than the one that we had before that stayed quite low and was shooting out to the left, this ball starts to pop up. You can see on the video that the ball is starting to disappear because it’s quite high, as opposed to the ball before which was quite low.
Showing both together, the bottom one is the one we want, the top one is where the errors crop up. As you can see when she comes through and makes contact, the top one is shooting out low, and watching what happens with the lower one, that it actually pops straight up almost out of view of the camera. The top one is where the errors happen, actually shooting out quite low. What we want to do is when we make contact with the ball we want it to launch off the club face and pop straight up.
You found that really interesting didn’t you. Did you notice that when the hands were moving, Pene didn’t make good contact. The club didn’t work as well and the ball didn’t elevate, whereas when she kept her hands nice and still coming through, which also keeps the club face nice and still coming through the shot, you can notice the difference between the trajectories. When the hands were twisting, the ball tended to stay much lower and the one where Pene made contact with the ball and the wrist was nice and straight at contact and her hands weren’t moving, the ball instantly elevated off the club face. It was amazing wasn’t it?
That’s how intricate it can be. We want to make sure that in order for you to get the most out of your golf game and get that consistency, you need to make that you are doing it. Not twisting the hands and trying to help the ball, that actually stops the ball from working, it's actually just making sure that when you are coming through you are keeping your hands quite still and keeping the club face nice and straight. It’s a very, very, simple thing that you need to do. Yet, it sounds simple but is actually, especially if you have been doing it a particular way, in hitting the ball it can be difficult.
I’m going to show you what you can work on, but then you have to spend the time practicing and working on it.
All we are going to do is a little tic-top back and through, but when we come through we need to make sure that our hands are not moving. Here we go, back, through, hold.
It’s a bit like a chip shot. If you have seen the chip shots that I’ve done you will see that it’s the same thing. It’s all the same, all about your contact. You make good solid contact then the ball works so much better. Notice that my hands are not twisting. When I’m coming through I not twisting, I’m keeping them nice and straight, if I keep the hands straight then the club face stays straight.
You need to actually be working on the smaller part of your golf swing, which means your contact. Get that right first and then you can build the rest of your swing. If the smaller part is not right then that’s why you can be inconsistent. Everyone thinks that it has something to do with the back swing, but it what you are doing at contact. Get that piece right and then everything will be so much better.
Okay, how did you find that? Makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it? Make sure you go and practice it. Don’t come to me and say you are not consistent, go and work on it. Then come to me and say you are not consistent and we’ll have a look at the swing.
I hope you enjoyed the tip today, love you to leave a comment and share with me what you liked best about what you heard today and if you have friends that you know will benefit from these videos, it would be absolutely awesome if you could share them, because we want to build the Lady Golf Teacher as big as we possibly can.
Have an absolutely awesome day, take care, and remember; Tee it high and Let it fly.

I’m heading off to the driving range to see if I can replicate your pointers.
I found the 2 comparison swings / trajectories part very helpful. Thanks Tif!
