#167 Web TV: Do You Struggle Hitting Out Of Bunkers - Part 1

Do You Struggle Hitting Out Of Bunkers - Part 1

Are you struggling to get the ball out of a bunker?

Is it something as low that has a shallow lip?

It doesn’t even have to be a high lip, something low, do you struggle with it?

We’re heading into spring, how cool is that? Anyway, struggling getting the ball out of the bunker. This lip isn’t very big, it’s quite small in comparison to some, yet I know a lot of people that actually struggle getting the ball out of the bunker with that size lip.

Do you struggle?

I’m going to show you from the back view of what I actually see. When someone does a bunker shot, what they tend to do is to come through and try to hit the ball and as you can see, I am pulling the club around. You can see my elbow behind my back, my club has come around my body and most likely the ball has ended up into the lip of the bunker or it has rolled back down.

What we want to do is this; it would be good to practice with a friend.

Get set and don’t worry about a ball as yet. There is no ball in this practice.

Now, get set, take the club back, hit the sand and come through. Notice where the club is, the club is actually still on the right side of my body, it hasn’t come around the corner, around my body, it is still staying here nice and straight. That is what you need to be looking for.

You just saw the back and now I’ll just quickly show you the front view. When you come through you can still see that the arms and the club are still going forward. It’s not coming around the body.

Your hips are going to do something different, you need to make sure that your hips are working but you also want to make sure that you are coming through.

We need the club and the arms to go forward to get the ball to go that way. That’s what you have to do!
I hope you really enjoyed today’s tip. It’s something really simple to look for and what you need to make sure you are doing with the club face. Making sure the arms are going through as well.
