#162 Web TV: The Golf Swing Takeaway

The Golf Swing Takeaway

I want to share a secret with you. I want to show you how you can hit a great shot just by fixing up your takeaway.

Yes, what we are going to be looking at today is the takeaway.

What’s a takeaway, what does that mean?

Basically, when you have done your setup and you are getting set to take your club back, that’s it, taking it away from the ball.

What we’re going to look at and I’m going to show you from the back angle so you can actually see what is going on so that you know what to look for in your takeaway.
Where people start falling apart in their swing is sometimes it’s as easy as what is going on with the takeaway.

What actually happens is that they tend to take their club back and around their body and there are also all sorts of other interesting things happening.
Sometimes when you take your club around you try to get back to the ball, you come around the ball, you do all sorts of different things. You end up with a different type of shot.

The thing that we want to be able to do is to hit a straight shot. What that actually means is that we need to take the takeaway, bringing the club back, straight back.
This is what we are going to do. If we want to hit a straight shot, we have to make sure the takeback, the takeaway, whatever you want to call it, we are bringing the club back, making sure it is coming straight back.

Straight back, not around the body or anything like that, we just want to go straight back so that what the club can then do is to go straight through.

I’ll show you what I mean.

Do the setup going straight back and then straight through. What happens to the golf ball? It goes nice and straight. It’s as easy as that.

The thing I want you to be looking for when you are doing your takeaway in your practice, and I do want to emphasize that you want to practice this type of thing on a practice range, don’t go out and try to implement it in a competition. When I teach people things, I want to make sure that they go and practice them first, don’t go straight out into a competition because it can mess with your head. Especially when you are trying something new.

But the thing that I want you to look for is that it’s just going straight back and straight through. What do we get? We get a nice straight shot.
That’s what I want you to be looking for when you are taking your club back you can then take your club through. Simple as that.
