#158 Web TV: How To Play Your 2nd Shot Without Stuffing It Up

How To Play Your 2nd Shot Without Stuffing It Up

You know when you have hit a shot off the tee and it’s been okay and then you go and play the second shot and then you think, I always stuff up my second shot! Well, we’re going to look at that today and I’m going to show you how you make sure your second shot always works.

I did a video previously on creating rhythm and what I wanted you to do was to create a nice, easy swing rhythm off the tee. The thing is that once we’ve played off the tee and we go to play the second shot, this is where it starts to get a little bit dicey. What you actually want to do is that you can see the green down there and you want to get the ball down onto the green (it’s going to be absolutely amazing when it happens) but what happens is that you put a lot of pressure on yourself.

What we need to do is to take the rhythm from the tee shot to the second shot. That’s what we are going to do.
I’ll do a tee shot for you, nice, easy swing and then go for a walk down the fairway to where my ball ends up and then play the second shot.

Now, the first shot. Make sure you take a practice swing first so you are getting the feel of how you want the shot to be. We want a nice, easy swing. Go through the process, get ourselves set, remember, all we want to do is a nice easy swing. Getting the feel of it.

A nice easy rhythm. Now, we’re going to play the second shot.

Here we are, down on the fairway and we’re about to play the second shot. Do you remember the feeling that you had when you were on the tee? I know you are going to say yes, I do, it was a nice easy swing. Nice easy rhythm and nice easy swing.

Now we need to make sure we create that same rhythm when we get ready to play our second shot. What I want you to do is to take your practice swing, the same feel and the same rhythm that you had when you were standing on the tee, that nice, easy rhythm and we want to replicate it here with the iron. Or your hybrid or whatever the club is going to be for your second shot. We need to make sure that it is the same feel.

I’ll do a practice swing, and all I’m going to do is a nice, easy swing. I don’t want you to think you have to get it onto the green, just use a nice easy swing, the best possible easy swing you can create.

Nice, easy swing, nice easy feel, got me down onto the green without even thinking about it, great result, but the feel of the swing is the point I want to make to you. All you need to do is to be nice and easy. No pressure, enjoy the moment of the swing, enjoy the feel of the ball coming off the club face, it’s a really great feeling.
