#121 Web TV: Golf Driving Tips - Right Shoulder Low

Golf Driving Tips - Right Shoulder Low

The famous tee shot.

Wow!

What are we going to do with it today?

I’m going to show you something really simple. Something I see quite a lot with golfers, is that they are focusing on where the ball is going, rather than what they should be doing when they are making contact with the ball. It’s actually about making straighter shots. We have to start learning to trust ourselves.

Today I’m going to show you a little tip on how to make sure that you are hitting a more consistent tee shot just by this one little tweak.

It’s very exciting to bring out the driver, the boom-boom shot.

I want to show you something that golfers don’t do. I want you to be aware of it, see if you are actually doing it yourself and if you are not, then you want to make sure that you are implementing it.

I’ll show you from a perspective of this side to begin with. When golfers come through to hit a shot, what they tend to do with their right shoulder (we’re talking about right handed golfers, if you are a lefty it would be the opposite) when coming down to make contact with the ball and the right shoulder stays nice and low through the shot, that’s great.

Can you see my shoulder coming through nice and low?

If my shoulder comes up when I hit the ball what do you think is going to happen? You know how you hear about the head lifting up and all that kind of thing. Because when the head lifts, what actually happens is that so do the shoulders. You end up coming around this way. In a golf swing you should be feeling more of this kind of action when you are making contact through here.

When we hit a tee shot we want to make sure (this is for other swings as well, by the way) but we are going to be talking about the driver. When you hit your tee shot with the driver you want to make sure that the shoulder stays nice and low. Just like I was talking about through the shot that you can see right now.

If I am to hit a tee shot, I’ll just do one for you, do a practice swing and all we want to focus on is feeling the shoulder stay nice and low. When we stand over the ball we want to recreate the same feeling. Here we go!

Stand, get set for the tee shot and then we go back and through, if we just hold that finish we can make sure we are in the right position. You can see that the shoulder has stayed nice and low and the left shoulder is high.

Something really simple to do, something so simple that you can just put the club across your body and remind yourself that you are actually doing it the right way.

Very, very simple thing to do to improve you swing.
