How To Chip Consistently - Part 2
What we are going to do today is looking at how we can get a consistent chip shot. Remember I told you in the previous video that we are going to do a series of chipping?
Well here is the next part of that, so we are up to part two, How To Chip Consistently - Part 2.
Last week I spoke to you about starting to create a consistent action using our pitching wedge.
Today we are going to be using the sand wedge (56 degree wedge) and I want you to do that, working on creating a consistent action.
Just a nice little short back and through swing, just a tiny little back and through. Now, what we want to be able to do is to create the same distance when we do the shot. This is going to be your challenge for when you are playing. When we are going back and through we want to create this very similar distance with the ball.
Now, notice the chip shot is just a simple back and through action, it’s very small but the big thing I want you to be aware of is that when I come through I am actually holding the finish, it’s very controlled.
If you notice, my back swing was always a very similar length. If you see these balls over here, what you actually see is that they have all finished in a similar area. That’s telling me that my shot is consistent.
I asked you to have an experiment with that last week and whether you did or did not work on that with the pitching wedge to create a consistent swing length. Now you can see, that what I have just done is create a consistent swing length here and my balls have all finished in a similar area.
So the challenge that I am going to put to you, I don’t what you to do it with five balls, I want you to do it with ten balls and start doing that with your sand wedge and keep chipping and chipping and chipping until you get that swing length right so that you are getting a consistent distance.
Now, I don’t want you to sacrifice your swing so you get the same distance each time. What I mean by that is I don’t want you to stop and shorten your swing to shorten the ball. I want you to make sure that you are always doing is to swing back and through and HOLD.
It’s really, really important. I have spoken about that in previous videos about when you do your chip shots you hold the position when you finish, but I want you to make sure that you are doing it here today. This is how we are going to develop that consistency in the swing.
I hope you enjoyed today’s tip and I hope you got a lot of value out of that and you are going to go straight to the practice green and do it. Or, you can come out here under the light like I am and have a go.
Have an absolutely awesome day, take care, and remember; tee it high and let it fly.
