Today you will learn what Ambition Habits is and how it can help you build confidence in your sport. What we’re going to be focusing on today is how you can build your confidence.
We’re going to create some awareness around what's actually holding you back from building that confidence. And why is that awareness so important? By identifying these barriers, you can take actionable steps to overcome them. This will help you not only in your sport but also in your everyday life.
Delve into the origins and evolution of Ambition Habits, and what it's designed to do to help you.
Ambition Habits came along after sitting in the back of my mind for a long time. I'm a golf professional who teaches golf, takes women on golf tours, and I'm also a professional tennis coach. I've taught many people over the years in both tennis and golf. As an accomplished sports person myself, I continue to be so as I grow older. You never want to stop playing sport as you get older, especially if you're a sports person like me—you just want to play it more and more while your body and mind are willing and able.
I wanted to design something for women to help them build confidence in themselves so they could feel really good about themselves when playing sport. It's not just about the elite level of sport, even though many of the strategies I share can apply to that. It's mostly about helping the everyday female athlete. Whether they play tennis, golf, bowls, karate, soccer, walking soccer, pickleball, or any other sport, my aim is to support them.
Many women I teach are worried about letting people down, not being good enough, or even holding everyone back if they take up a new sport. Some have never played sport before, having spent their years raising a family. They often feel inadequate, overwhelmed, or very nervous about putting themselves out there and learning a new sport. Ambition Habits was born from listening to these women and discussing their feelings of not being good enough or feeling inadequate.
The goal is to help build confidence in sporting women, regardless of whether they are beginners, intermediate, advanced, or even thinking about taking up a new sport. By focusing on overcoming mental barriers, Ambition Habits can help them accomplish whatever they set out to achieve in their sport.
Even is you want to keep playing socially but improve your game? We have strategies to help. Whether you're shifting from a beginner to intermediate or advanced level or aspiring to play state, national, or even world events, we've got you covered.
With years of experience in coaching and playing sports, I bring a wealth of knowledge. I've been a competitive athlete my whole life and recently took up lawn bowls. I'm hooked! The goal is to help women feel confident in any sport, be it tennis, golf, bowls, or any other. The journey is about developing not just skills, but also the right mindset.
It's about mental, physical, nutritional, and sports skills habits. Ambition Habits is designed to help women at any level—beginner, intermediate, or advanced—build the confidence to pursue their sports ambitions.
As someone passionate about sport, I realized many women lack confidence to pursue their sporting goals. I wanted to create a program that helps develop the necessary habits to build that confidence. My own journey in sports, from tennis to golf to lawn bowls, taught me the importance of mindset. Ambition Habits is here to guide women through their own journeys.
Growing up, I dreamed of being a professional tennis player. I faced self-doubt and negativity, but I had a supportive family. I trained so hard at the tennis academy after school, but I wasn't progressing. I was training between 10 to 12 hours a day, but I just couldn't get past the first round of tournaments. It was so frustrating. At the time, I had no idea it was my mindset. It wasn’t until I gave up on my dream, which was heartbreaking, that I started to figure it out.
I discovered it was a lack of self-confidence, belief, and negative self-talk. I always thought I wasn't good enough, even though I had the physical talent and skills.
When I picked up golf in my 30s. The same demons from tennis started haunting me, so I decided to go on a personal development journey. I realized I needed to work on building my confidence and self-belief. I didn't want to repeat the same disappointments from tennis in golf. AS I progressed from golf then into teaching golf I learned so much about what held me back.
When I began to teach golf I was helping women build their confidence. I do focus a lot on local women who play weekly competitions. They often feel overlooked and lack confidence because they're not aiming to be professional athletes.
Confidence is crucial, no matter the level of sport. Everyone deserves to feel good about what they're doing. It's not just about the elite athletes; it's about every woman who wants to enjoy her sport and feel good about herself.
My mission with Ambition Habits is that I want to show women how to build that inner confidence, regardless of their sporting goals.
The Question Then Becomes Can Confidence Be Learned?
The simple answer is YES, confidence can be learned.
And to build self-confidence it will be a game-changer.
The method of TFAR—thoughts, feelings, actions, results—makes so much sense. It’s all about creating a positive feedback loop. When your thoughts are encouraging, it influences your feelings, which in turn drives positive actions and leads to better results.
Here's a quick rundown for building self-confidence using TFAR:
Thoughts: Start with positive self-talk. Instead of saying, “I can't drive,” think, “I have a great swing and I'm improving every day.”
Feelings: Notice how these thoughts make you feel more confident and less anxious.
Actions: With positive feelings, your actions will follow. You'll approach your shot with more confidence and calm.
Results: Positive actions lead to positive results, reinforcing the cycle. You hit a great shot, and your confidence grows.
Here is your exercise for how to create awarenesses of your self talk to begin the journey of building self-confidence.
1. Thoughts: Write down what you're thinking before you play.
2. Feelings: Note the emotions these thoughts bring up.
3. Actions: Record the actions you take based on these feelings.
4. Results: Reflect on the outcomes.
By creating awareness, you can pinpoint negative patterns and consciously shift them towards positive ones. This method applies not just to sports, but to business and life in general.
