The Number 1 Secret to Hitting Your Irons Consistently

Are you struggling to hit your irons consistently?

I’m going to take you back to basics to be quite honest. The simple reason for that is I just find so many people that come to me really struggle hitting consistent balls.

Whether it be an iron, a wood, the driver, whatever kind of club they are looking to gain consistency out of, they are really struggling with one element and I find that if you get this right then everything comes together so much easier, but if you don’t get this right then this is where the struggle is.

So I am going to show you in today’s tip how to make sure you are doing this one thing so you can create better consistency out of your irons.

The most important thing in a golf shot is good contact. I am a massive fan of good contact with the ball. I don’t care what you do with your back swing or your follow through, it’s what you do when you are making contact. That’s where you are creating consistency in your shot and that’s what I’m interested in. If that’s not right, it doesn’t matter what happens before and after the swing,
if you are not making good contact with the ball you won’t get consistency.

You want to make sure that when you make contact with the ball is very similar to what I have been talking about in any of my pitching videos especially the most recent ones, when I talked about keeping that triangle, some people call it a Y, left arm, right arm, I call it a triangle because we add the shoulders in but it is really about maintaining the triangle all the way through the shot.

This is where the consistency is!

We can focus on making good contact with the ball because if we keep that Y happening, and the hands are not moving around to hit the ball, then we can actually get the club face to do the right thing, hit the ball. And go straight. That’s what we want.

So, I’m going to take you back to the basics, very simple 8 o’clock to 4 o’clock swing, back to 8 o’clock, through to 4 o’clock, just getting that feel, it might look a little like 9 to 3, you can still do that as well, but make sure that’s what we are working on.


Do your set up, and the big thing I want you to make sure you do is to keep the left arm straight as much as possible. I don’t want to see a bend in the wrist in the set up because when you come through it’s highly likely there will still be a bend in the wrist. So, when we set up make sure that the wrist is nice and straight. Might have to push the hand a little bit forward, focus on that, do the
setup and then what we want to do here is to go long back, long through and then hold.

What did you see?

You saw me maintain the triangle. Make sure you get this part of the swing
right before you go up into it. I’ll do one more demonstration for you. Pretty easy? Focus first on making really good contact with the ball. That’s the most important thing - that is the number one secret to you hitting a consistent iron shot.
